CHILD THERAPY

Child Therapy & Counseling

Stephanie Legendre, LPC-S, Registered Play Therapist

Child Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor Stephanie Legendre is committed to enhancing the lives of children by focusing on a child’s strengths to meet his or her individual needs.

Stephanie uses the following types of therapy for children:

Play Therapy
Children are not able to process emotions like adults can in counseling sessions.  Play therapy is effective because it allows the child to communicate through play and resolve conflicts in a nonthreatening way.  Play therapy bridges the gap between concrete experience and abstract thought.

Emotional Regulation Therapy

Emotional regulation therapy for children and teens is a specialized approach designed to help youngsters and teens understand and manage their emotions effectively. Through targeted interventions, I teach children and teens skills to identify, express, and regulate their feelings in a healthy manner. This therapeutic process often involves activities, discussions, and coping strategies tailored to the child’s developmental stage. By fostering emotional intelligence and resilience, emotional regulation therapy empowers children to navigate life’s challenges with greater self-awareness and improved coping mechanisms, laying the groundwork for positive emotional well-being and resiliency.

Behavioral Therapy

Behavioral therapy for children and teens is a structured and evidence-based approach aimed at addressing and modifying problematic behaviors. I work collaboratively with parents, using techniques such as reinforcement, modeling, and skill-building to foster positive behavior, emotional regulation, and improve overall mental health.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR therapy for children and teens is a specialized approach that aids in processing traumatic experiences and reducing distressing symptoms. By utilizing bilateral stimulation techniques, such as eye movements or taps, EMDR helps young individuals reprocess negative memories, promoting emotional healing and resilience.

Brainspotting for Children and Teens

Brainspotting for children and teens is an innovative therapeutic technique that targets and processes trauma and emotional difficulties by identifying specific “brainspots.” This method, involving the therapist’s guidance, allows young individuals to access and release emotions without having to talk about those emotions.  For children and teens brainspotting is often impactful, even in short durations, making it practical to combine with other therapy approaches.

Theraplay

Theraplay is an attachment focused therapy that helps children and families enhance their relationships, increase self-esteem, positive engagement, and trust in others.  It is especially helpful for foster/adoptive children, children with regulation difficulties, and children with insecurities and distrust in others.

Neurofeedback LENS

Neurofeedback LENS, or Low Energy Neurofeedback System, is a cutting-edge therapeutic technique that involves providing the brain with real-time feedback to optimize its functioning. By utilizing low-energy electromagnetic fields, LENS aims to promote neural regulation, leading to improvements in various conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, and other neurological challenges.
