Divorce Counseling for Children and Teens

Navigating Change with Compassion: Supporting Children and Teens through Divorce

Children respond to divorce in different ways and sometimes behavioral symptoms will not appear until one parent remarries or families are blended.

Counseling offers children and teens a place where they can have reasonable control that they did not have in reality.  Child counseling helps children grieve the loss of their house, belongings, family, and traditions and begin to adjust to new changes.

Understanding the Impact: Divorce can be a significant upheaval for children and teens, stirring a range of emotions from confusion to grief. My treatment plan begins by acknowledging these feelings, creating a safe space for young individuals to express themselves and process the changes in their family dynamics.

Services We Offer:

  1. Individual Counseling:
    • Tailored counseling sessions for children and teens, providing a confidential and supportive environment to explore and understand their emotions.
  2. Family Therapy:
    • Facilitate open communication and understanding through family therapy, fostering healthy relationships and helping families navigate the challenges of divorce together.
  3. Co-Parenting Support:
    • Offer guidance and resources for co-parenting strategies that prioritize the well-being of the children, emphasizing consistent routines and effective communication between parents.
  4. Blended Family Coaching:
    • Interactive coaching sessions with parents help address the unique dynamics of blended families, providing tools to build strong relationships, and navigate the integration of new family members.
  5. Child-Centered Approaches:
    • Implement child-centered therapeutic techniques that focus on the needs and perspectives of children and teens, promoting their emotional well-being throughout the divorce process.

Our Approach: I believe in a holistic approach that nurtures not only the emotional aspects but also the practical considerations involved in divorce, co-parenting, and blended families. I emphasize:

  • Empathy: Having a blended family myself, I understand the complexities of family transitions and approach each situation with empathy, ensuring that children and teens feel heard and supported.
  • Education: Equipping families with knowledge about the emotional impact of divorce, co-parenting best practices, and effective strategies for building harmonious blended families.
  • Empowerment: Our goal is to empower children, teens, and parents with the tools they need to thrive in their new family dynamics, fostering resilience and emotional well-being.
