Counseling Approach & Benefits
Child, Teen and Family Counseling by Stephanie Legendre, LPC-S
Child Parent Relationship Therapy:
Parents are an important part of the child’s life. CPRT is a unique treatment modality that strengthens the parent child relationship and increases communication, enjoyment, and positive interactions between parents and children.
Anxiety:
Often times children and teens struggle with worries and thoughts that can increase oppositional behaviors, avoidance of activities, and stress in the home environment. Creative techniques using art and games help children and their parents learn how to soothe their anxiety and fight their anxious thoughts.
Behavioral issues:
It can be stressful if children are constantly getting in trouble at home or at school for both the child and parents. Often times creating a treatment plan through finding out what the parent and child need and working towards a goal can help parents and children feel successful.
Abuse/Trauma:
My past work with the Children’s Advocacy Center and has given me the opportunity to work with many children and teens suffering from sexual or physical abuse. This can be a scary time for the child to come to counseling so play and creative activities can help the child feel more comfortable in session.
Stress/Grief/Life changes:
Children have difficulty talking about things that bother them. Play therapy for younger children and creative activities for teens help them feel comfortable in session to demonstrate or show how they feel even if they don’t have the words to describe it.
