Teen Counseling

Stephanie Legendre, LPC-S, RPT

Sometimes teens can be resistant to counseling. They may say to parents, “you can make me go but you cannot make me talk.”  In therapy building a relationship by allowing the teen to have reasonable control in the counseling session can help decrease power struggles. There are many interactive games that can be incorporated so that the teen does not have to feel pressured to talk in the first couple of sessions.

Title: Guiding Teens Toward Resilience: Teen Counseling Services

Introduction: Welcome to my Teen Counseling Services, a dedicated space designed to support teenagers in navigating the challenges of adolescence. At this pivotal stage of development, I am committed to providing a safe and understanding environment where teens can explore their thoughts, emotions, and personal growth.

Understanding Teen Counseling: Adolescence is a period of rapid change, self-discovery, and unique challenges. My teen counseling services are tailored to address the specific needs of teenagers, offering them a confidential and supportive space to express themselves and navigate the complexities of their journey.

How We Support Teens:

  • Individual Counseling:
    • Personalized one-on-one sessions.
    • Explore concerns, set goals, and develop coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and other challenges.
  • Peer Relationship Summer Group:
    • Facilitate workshops focusing on building healthy peer relationships, effective communication, and understanding who they are.
    • Encourage teens to navigate conflicts, set boundaries, and develop positive social skills.
    • Stephanie creates and supervises a summer teen girl group called “Who Am I” to give teens the courage to be their true self in a generation full of social media pressures.
  • Mindfulness and Stress Management:
    • Introduce mindfulness techniques to help teens manage stress and cultivate emotional resilience.
    • Provide tools for staying present, reducing anxiety, and promoting overall well-being.
  • Academic and Goal-Setting Support:
    • Assist teens in setting academic and personal goals.
    • Offer strategies for time management, organization, and effective study habits.
    • Stephanie specializes in ADHD coaching for teens who have a hard time self-monitoring.
  • Neurofeedback LENS:
    • Stephanie uses Neurofeedback LENS in session with teens who need help regulating their nervous system.  LENS only takes up 15 minutes of their session giving them plenty of time to engage in talk therapy, skill building, and other therapy modalities.
    • Neurofeedback LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System) is an innovative therapeutic approach that utilizes low-frequency electromagnetic signals to gently encourage self-regulation in the brain, promoting improved cognitive function and emotional well-being.
  • Brainspotting
    • Brainspotting for teens is a therapeutic method that taps into the brain-body connection to help adolescents process and release emotional trauma, enhancing self-awareness and fostering psychological healing.

Counseling Approaches:

  1. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
    • Utilize CBT techniques to explore and reframe negative thought patterns and behaviors.
    • Help teens develop effective coping mechanisms and problem-solving skills.
  2. Expressive Therapies:
    • Incorporate art, music, or other expressive therapies to provide alternative ways for teens to communicate and process emotions.
    • Encourage creative expression as a tool for self-discovery.
  3. Positive Psychology Principles:
    • Apply positive psychology principles to enhance strengths and promote a positive mindset.
    • Focus on building resilience, self-esteem, and a sense of purpose.

Confidentiality and Trust: Stephanie understands the importance of confidentiality and building trust. Stephanie creates a non-judgmental space where teens feel safe to explore their thoughts and emotions without fear of judgment.
