TEEN COUNSELING

Teen Counseling

Stephanie Legendre, LPC-S, RPT

Sometimes teens can be resistant to counseling. They may say to parents, “you can make me go but you cannot make me talk.”  In therapy building a relationship by allowing the teen to have reasonable control in the counseling session can help decrease power struggles. There are many interactive games that can be incorporated so that the teen does not have to feel pressured to talk in the first couple of sessions.

Even if your teenager is willing to come to counseling interactive therapy techniques such as sand tray, art, games, and the use of metaphors are beneficial to help teens understand and gain a sense of who they are in order to work through stress in their lives.
